Skoda Superb Hatch Now Available as a Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV)
The Skoda Superb Hatchback is to be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the first time having previously only been available in estate trim.
The addition of the Superb Hatch to Skoda’s PHEV line-up sees it join the Superb Estate, Octavia and Kodiaq SUV in combining petrol and electric power for improved fuel economy and lower emissions.
While Skoda has been at the forefront of automotive electric revolution with the top-selling Enyaq and Elroq, the Superb Hatch PHEV’s arrival reflects a growing shift in trend towards PHEV across Europe too.
The new system mates a 1.5-litre engine with an 85kW electric motor fed by a 25.7kWh battery, which together generates 268bhp to make it the most powerful option in the Superb range.
Reaching 0-62mph in just 7.1secs, the Superb PHEV is also tuned to improve in-gear acceleration, while the braking system has also been upgraded.
While official figures for electric-only range haven’t been confirmed, the Hatch should mirror the Estate version, so expect up to 84-miles of zero-emission driving and total fuel economy of around 150mpg.
Total range – including electric range and a full fuel tank – should see the Superb Hatch PHEV travel more than 550-miles before needing to be recharged and refuelled.
When the time does come to recharge, the Superb Hatch PHEV supports rapid charging that take just 26-minutes to go from 10 to 80%.
Lower running costs, extended total range and the prospect of being able to drive in ULEZ zones on electric power serves to complement the Superb’s credentials as an excellent taxi option.
