Skoda Elroq Taxi Review - Skoda's New Electric Taxi is an Elroq Star

Practical, comfortable, refined, reliable - it’s little wonder models like the Skoda Octavia and Skoda Superb have earned a loyal following among taxi drivers. So, what happens when you add electric power into the mix? Meet the Skoda Elroq.
Developed to the short yet apt ‘Simply Clever’ tagline, today’s Skoda range has evolved in parallel lanes. On the one hand you have legacy models like the Octavia, Superb and Scala – all firm favourites among taxi drivers – and on the other are ambitious new interpretations of traditional formulas like the Enyaq.
You’ll find the Skoda Elroq – which wraps an electric powertrain in a trendy, practical mid-size SUV body - among the latter, but while the all-new model takes the Czechia firm in a fresh direction, those ‘Simply Clever’ traits that have made its range so popular over the years are still held close to its battery-powered core.
Skoda Elroq – Top Takeaways for Taxi Drivers
- Up to 356-miles of range depending on the model
- Zero emissions, 28mins fast recharge
- 470-litre boot and capacious interior with lots of storage
- Likely to be as reliable and dependable as other Skoda taxis
While the appeal of the Octavia and Superb as hard-working, dependable taxi options need little introduction, as battery power increasingly dictates how we drive our cars in the urban-based environments, does an electric Skoda Elroq taxi therefore tick even more boxes as a top private hire vehicle choice?

Is an Electric Taxi the Way to Go?
There are several good reasons to consider choosing an electric car as your next taxi, though it is important to consider the nature of your taxi business before making that decision.
For a start, electric cars offer significant savings on running costs, while the zero emissions output ensure they won’t be subject to clean-air zone tariffs often found in key city centre locations.
Better yet, EV technology has come a remarkably long way in a short space of time, to such an extent that improvements in range and recharging speeds help to dispel some of the misgivings taxi drivers might have had about electric even just a couple of years ago.
The Skoda Elroq, for instance, offers a generous 265-356-miles of range, depending on the model, which will comfortably cover at least one full day of business. So, if you have access to regular or overnight charging facilities, an electric car makes an excellent, cost-efficient option.
And even if you don’t have direct access to recharging, the Elroq as an example will recharge 10-80% in 24-28-minutes for minimal downtime.

2026 Skoda Elroq Taxi: Practicality & Interior Space
Choose a Skoda for your taxi business and it’s a given you’ll be getting a car that puts class-leading levels of space and practicality at the forefront of its design.
We’ve seen it with the Octavia and the Superb, but the Scala, Kodiaq and even the compact Fabia also beat rivals’ hands-down when it comes to versatility... so how does the Skoda Elroq fare?
While it is true the alternative packaging required to design a car around a battery, rather than an ICE, presents challenges, the Elroq’s interior remains as practical and thoughtfully designed as we have come to expect from Skoda.
Six-footers will have no problem getting comfortable in the rear seats, not just because of the generous head and legroom on offer, but because the perches are cossetting too.
The 470-litre boot is well-shaped and large enough to swallow three suitcases, while the loading lip is usefully low too.
Of particular note is the attention to detail that takes oft-wasted space and reappropriates it for practical use.
Those familiar with Skoda will know this to be a particular strength of the brand’s cars, so it’ll be a relief to learn that the famous umbrella – tucked away in the driver’s door – and handy ice scraper do indeed make an appearance here.

Beyond that though, there are multiple cubby holes and storage spaces dotted about the cabin, whether it’s under the centre console, as part of the rear compartment or inside the glovebox.
It’s the same in the boot, where a full complement of hooks to hang shopping bags securely can be found, along with a divider that finally makes practical use of the awkwardly shaped space above the rear wheelarches.
The Elroq’s parcel shelf is also an example of a clever, yet simple – some would say ‘Simply Clever’ – bit of engineering. It can be pulled across two tiers, the lower of which doubles as useful table to hold items you don’t want in the boot, such as muddy shoes or wet clothing items.
It can then be folded against back of the rear bench when not in use, rather than removed and left behind, while it serves as a storage place for your charging cables too.

2026 Skoda Elroq Taxi: Interior
Step inside the Skoda Elroq and you’re greeted by a clean, fuss-free design that places the onus on comfort and ergonomics.
The fascia, which will be familiar to other Skoda owners, features a dashboard that curves towards you to form a shelf upon which a well-sized 13-inch touchscreen is perched.
The whole look is finished by that shelf being upholstered in a choice of either leatherette or fabric, which is just one of the reassuringly premium-feeling touch points along with the thick steering wheel and solid switchgear that fall easily-to-hand.
Speaking of switchgear, while the Elroq’s styling approach does lean towards minimalist, it’s never obtrusively so - something that cannot be said for many new launches these days that delegate most – if not all – controls to a touchscreen.
If it’s all a little too conventional for you though, there are some surprisingly vibrant ways to jazz things up, including colourful seatbelts, plush seating and some subtle but effective ambient lighting options.

2026 Skoda Elroq Taxi: Performance & Running Costs
Three battery sizes are available with the Skoda Elroq, though the largest of these – a dual-motor 84kWh battery – is reserved for the sporty vRS that’ll keep fares entertained with its rapid 5.4secs dash to 0-62mph.
Of more relevance is the 63kWh battery, referred to as 60, and the 82kWh battery that is known as 85.
The 63kWh, which is available across SE L, Edition and SportLine trims, is a value-oriented option, though it still packs a frisky 201bhp.
Range is generous at 265-miles in the context of the Elroq’s price tag, so if your daily taxi commute isn’t likely to breach this, the 63kWh battery is the smart option.
Upgrade to the larger 82kWh battery – also available in SE L, Edition and SportLine trims – and the Elroq’s range spikes to a durable 356-miles, according to WLTP figures.
While WLTP figures don’t always indicate real-world driving conditions, the Elroq should keep you on the road for an extended period without having to scurry for recharging facilities.
Even if you do, it takes only 24-28-minutes to complete a fast recharge from 10-80%.

2026 Skoda Elroq Taxi – The Verdict
As a manufacturer that has quietly developed a quite remarkable habit of delivering quality car after quality car, it should come as no surprise that the Skoda Elroq electric SUV is another winner from the firm.
Compared with the larger Skoda Enyaq, the Elroq convincingly blends running cost-efficient electric power with the core fundamentals of what makes a Skoda so appealing – value, versatility and smart attention to detail.
The Octavia and Superb remain the more practical taxi choices in a conventional sense, but the Enyaq gets remarkably close on the strength of some genuinely clever practical touches that make you wonder why they didn’t exist before.
And besides, at a time when emissions regulations continue to tighten, if the sums for electric power add up for your taxi business, then the Skoda Enyaq is not only a top-quality option, but it also might turn out to be a smart one too.
At the very least, it’s a relief to know that migrating from an Octavia or Superb to an Elroq will not only feel seamless, but you could even consider it an upgrade.
