MG Taxi Range: Practical and Powerful makes MG the Perfect Taxi
If the traditional taxi check list among drivers and businesses contains buzzwords like practicality, low running costs, comfort and reliability, then ‘MG taxi’ should be scribbled somewhere on that piece of paper too.
They are credentials that represent quite a swerve for the MG brand from its bold British origins as a sportscar maker to its current iteration as a manufacturer of spacious and frugal family cars.
Indeed, few car manufacturers can boast a pedigree as rich as MG but while the latest chapter in its illustrious history doesn’t quite have a grandiose splendour of models like the MGB or MGF, the company has certainly found a modern-day niche that is resonating with the buying public.
Having ended 2026 as the tenth most popular UK brand among buyers, MG’s momentum shows no sign of slowing down, as represented by four new additions to The Taxi Centre range this year – the MGS5, MGS6, MG IM5 and MG IM6.
Joining the MG4 and MG HS in its comprehensive line-up, here is a closer look at why an MG makes the ideal taxi to suit myriad needs.
MG Taxi Range – Electric or Hybrid?
Key to MG’s rapid growth has been its future-forward approach to adopting electric and hybrid powertrains.
Proving electric cars needn’t be slapped with premium price tags, models like the MG4 and MG ZS EV have established themselves as among the best-selling zero emissions models in the UK.
It’s a tactic that forms the basis for its latest wave of models, which are offered with electric power only. As it stands, the only model in MG’s range offered with a conventional petrol option is the MG HS, though this can also be had with a plug-in hybrid powertrain too.

MG4 Taxi
The electric MG4 sits at the entry-point to the range providing frugal running costs in a conventional family hatchback package.
It might sound logical to combine electric power with one of the most popular body shapes, but traditionally electric family hatchbacks have been too expensive versus their fuel-powered counterparts.
However, the MG4 eschews that trend with competitive pricing while retaining all the benefits that electric brings, namely zero emissions and reduced running costs.
With up to 329-miles of range from the flagship 77kWh Extended Range battery, that alone is reason enough to consider an MG4 taxi, but combine this with a spacious interior, a smartly appointed interior and surprisingly brisk performance and the MG4 emerges as a lot of car for the money.
MGS5 Taxi
A new addition to the MG Taxi Centre line-up, the MGS5 arrives as the much-anticipated replacement for the wildly successful MG ZS EV.
For its successor, MG has focused on bolstering the strengths of the ZS EV – namely its practical interior, generous specification and easy-to-live with nature – while shoring up its appeal in other key areas.
Two battery options are offered – 49kWh and 64kWh – with the larger of the two capable of almost 300 miles of range. Better still, it produces a swift 228bhp and takes less than 30 minutes to achieve a 10-80% recharge.
It’s spacious too with a 453-litre boot on offer and plenty of room in the rear for three adult passengers, while kit across the board includes active safety aides, LED headlights, a reversing camera and 17-inch alloy wheels. Opt for the top-of-the-range Trophy and you’ll also get a 360-degree camera and powered tailgate.
MG HS Taxi
Arguably the most conventional model in MG’s range, the MG HS satisfies those not yet ready to take a full plunge on electric.
Instead, it gets the choice of either petrol, so-called Hybrid+ and plug-in hybrid power options, with each offering attractive merits depending on your taxi needs.
The HS majors on providing lots of car for not a lot of cash, so while prices start at the level of a Ford Puma, for instance, the HS is substantially larger and better equipped like a Ford Kuga.
The Hybrid+ accentuates the standard petrol version to offer more than 50mpg, but for genuinely low running costs, the plug-in hybrid – which combines a 140bhp petrol engine with a 24.7kWh battery – allows for an impressive 75-miles of electric only running.
Better yet, there is more than 500-litres of boot space available, while the interior is a comfortable and good quality place to spend time either as a driver or a passenger.
MGS6 Taxi
In many ways satisfying the brief for an electric HS, the MGS6 sits in a similar SUV bracket as its stablemate in terms of size but does so with zero emissions power.
However, while they have similar external dimensions, some expert packaging has earned the MGS6 a vast interior, including a class-leading 674-litres of boot space. This grows to almost 2000-litres of boot space with the rear seats down, while there is even a giant 124-litre ‘frunk’ under the bonnet.
The power options are split between Long Range (frugality) and Dual Motor (performance), though both still achieve over 300-miles of range. The former of these goes all the way to 329-miles, while the latter shifts quickly with a mighty 356bhp under your foot.
As well as being a handsome looker, the MGS6 is filled to the brim with lavish specification levels, while its lofty driving position provides a commanding view of the road.
MG IM5 Taxi
Aimed at taxi drivers who prefer their fares to enjoy the lap of luxury, the MG IM5 sees the manufacturer venture into Tesla Model 3 territory with lavish results.
From the outside, the IM5 is a striking looker, its combination of soft curves and a svelte design proving both eye-catching and aerodynamically efficient.
No expense has been spared on making the IM5 feel like a premium product, with an interior that is dominated by high-tech touchscreens designed to give the IM5 a luxury air.
A choice of 77kWh and 100kWh batteries are available – with the latter split between Long Range and Performance set-ups – with a remarkable 441-miles available from the former of those.
Moreover, it has been designed to accommodate up to 350kW of power for recharging, which – if you can find one – gets the IM5 from a 10% to an 80% charge in just 17-minutes.
MG IM6 Taxi
While the MG IM5 has its sights set directly on the Tesla Model 3, the sister IM6 is firmly focused on the big-selling Tesla Model Y.
As such, while the two models are evidently related, the IM6 gets a raised profile that apes the shape of the Model Y and increases practicality, with a boot that measures a massive 665-litres.
Beyond that, the IM5 and IM6 have identical interiors, while the latter comes with Long Range and Performance battery options, with the latter offering up to 388-miles of range and the same fast-charging capabilities.
