The Glasgow Taxi Outing: A Cherished Tradition on the Road Again
Since 1945, the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund has brought joy to children with additional support needs by organising a magical day out to the seaside. Each year, volunteer taxi drivers – and their vehicles decked out in colourful, eye-catching designs – come together to give families a day they’ll never forget. It’s one of the most uplifting events in the taxi calendar.
And this year, The Taxi Centre is proud to be part of it once again.
What Is the Glasgow Taxi Outing?
The outing begins with a lively morning gathering at Kelvingrove, where the children and their drivers form a spectacular procession through Glasgow City Centre – complete with bagpipes, balloons, and high fives – before heading down the coast to Troon. There, the kids are treated to a full day of funfair attractions, games, food, and entertainment before returning home in style.
It’s a heartwarming, high-energy day of smiles, sunshine (hopefully!), and shared community spirit.

Two of our very own team members, James Welsh and Jordan Walker, attended the Edinburgh outing earlier this week, proudly driving one of our multi-coloured polka dot LEVCs. They were part of a fantastic convoy spreading joy through the streets of Edinburgh and helping create lifelong memories for the children involved.
A Word from the Organisers
While this year’s Glasgow event is just around the corner, previous outings have received glowing praise from the community. As one organiser put it:
“We carried more than 100 kids... It was a wonderful trip, full of fun.”
The team behind the event has also thanked countless local businesses and volunteers for their support, saying:
“On behalf of the charity, I would like to thank Alison at AG Barr for organising the children’s juice for the trip to Troon.”
It’s clear that behind every smiling face is a whole team of people working hard to make the day a success.
