    Uber Introduces Advanced Bookings

One of Uber’s main disadvantages compared to its competitors has always been its lack of advanced bookings, with users only able to make bookings at the time of travel.

However, Uber has finally announced that it is adding an advanced booking feature, which will allow users to schedule rides up to 30 days before they actually happen.

The feature is expected to first roll out in London, before becoming available throughout the rest of the UK. In addition, only business account users will initially be able to make advanced bookings, before the feature eventually becomes available to all users.

Unlike private hire and minicab companies, journeys booked in advance with Uber will not be pre-assigned to a specific driver. Instead, the journey will go to a driver on the road at the time. This means that Uber will need to work out when to display the booking to drivers, in order to account for traffic, plus to account for the fact that drivers are not obligated to accept the booking. The feature will initially only be available for UberX drivers, the apps standard taxis.

Uber first introduced scheduled rides to Seattle in June, with the option now available in many US cities. The feature is just one of a number of recent additions tested by the company in an effort to stand out from similar services. The company is currently testing a system in some cities, which allows riders to purchase access to cheaper fares by buying a “travelcard”.
