Glasgow Drivers Prep for Charity Trip to Troon

The annual Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund trip to Troon returns this month, with drivers from across the city giving up their day to treat hundreds of Ayrshire children to a day at the seaside.

This year’s event is held on Wednesday 21^st June, and will see over 100 drivers take around 300 schoolchildren who require additional learning support, alongside their parents and carers, to Troon in South Ayrshire.

The trip – now in its 72^nd year – will commence at the traditional starting point of Kelvin Way, where thousands of well-wishers are expected to be in attendance to wave the drivers and their passengers off. Drivers will then head through Glasgow’s city centre and south side, before making their way through Ayrshire to their seaside destination.

Since launching back in 1945 it’s estimated that around 60,000 drivers have taken part in the charity drive, with most donning fancy dress on the day. This year’s event is supported by long time sponsors Glasgow Taxi Ltd and the Celtic FC Foundation, alongside local backers Watermans, Stewart Milne Holmes, and Butchershop Bar and Grill.

Jim Buchanan, chair of event organisers the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund, said that “It’s all for the children and the excitement on their faces on the day is priceless, however the great thing about the trip is how much it is also loved by drivers, our volunteers and everyone else who makes it happen.”
