Nissan’s Electric Taxis Reach the Three Million Mark

Nissan recently announced that taxi drivers have now carried passengers over three million miles of the UK’s roads in their market-leading electric cars, the Nissan LEAF and the Nissan e-NV200 Combi.

While there’s always something to be said for sticking to what you know, more and more taxi drivers on the UK’s roads are beginning to discover the myriad benefits that electric vehicles enjoy.

In a practical sense, few modes of transport are more cost-effective than an electric vehicle. Electric power’s availability at just two pence per mile saves drivers thousands of pounds on annual running costs, in comparison to petrol and diesel motors.

While the problem of running out of battery is something by which we’re all routinely blighted, electric vehicles’ batteries rank among the best in terms of longevity, efficiency and maintenance. The very first Nissan LEAF taxi in the UK, for example, lasted over one hundred thousand miles before a single bar of battery life was used.

The quality of these batteries’ performance is matched by the ease and speed with which they charge, where an empty battery can refill to 80% in just thirty minutes.

Cheaper to run, incredibly efficient across the board and making our cities cleaner and quieter places in which to live, we&rsrsquo;re interested to see how electric vehicles develop in the future and what they’ll be like by the time Nissan’s electric taxis reach four million miles, and beyond.
